Free e-car parking spaces in Weiden: From 2025 is over!

From 2025, the free parking for electric cars in Weiden is over! The main administrative committee has decided that from January 1, 2025, the electrical extras will be eliminated for everyone. This decision follows the example of the Czech capital Prague, which has already announced that electric cars are no longer allowed to park for free from next year.

The SPD committee member Gabriele Laurich has campaigned for this measure. In her opinion, free parking is not a crucial incentive for citizens to buy an electric car. "The privilege is more of a nice bonus, but not a criterion to buy," explains Laurich. It also emphasizes the need for equality and wants to reduce the tensions between e-car fans and combustion owners. "This is the only way to do it," she adds.

CSU city councilor Hans Forster sees it very differently. He advocates an extension of the e-car advantage for another year and refers to the stagnating number of admission for electric vehicles in the city. In January 2023 it was 599, only 693 a year later. "We need every incentive to make the citizens buying an electric car tasty," argues Forster.
