a moving commemoration in pastures!
On Sunday, the Memorial Day, an impressive sum of 17,800 euros was collected in Weiden for the war grave collection. The generous donations were ceremoniously handed over to Mayor Jens Meyer, who acts as district chairman of the Volksbund for German War Graves care. This sum is not only a sign of solidarity, but also a powerful commitment to memory of the victims of war and violence.
After the emotional donation handover, numerous citizens, city councilors and state politicians gathered for an impressive march for the war memorial in the Konrad-Adenauer facility. There, Mayor Jens Meyer gave a moving speech in which he underlined the importance of the day: “Today we commemorate the victims of war and tyranny. We commemorate the soldiers, the victims of war, the victims of massacres and genocides.” These words echoed through the crowd and reminded everyone present that peace and freedom are not a matter of course.
a moment of pausing
The OB asked those present to pause and hold a minute's silence in order to honor the dead of the wars. "Let us pause together and honor and appreciate those who have lost their lives in war through a minute's silence," he concluded his moving speech. This Memorial Day was not only a commemoration, but also an urgent appeal for peace and humanity in a world often characterized by conflicts.
