Chris Cacavas: A concert full of melancholy and brave experiments!

Weiden in der Oberpfalz, Deutschland - Chris Cacavas, an artist whose music could have reached a wider audience in the 1990s, recently appeared in Weiden in the Upper Palatinate. 30 years ago he gave his first concert in the city, and although the anniversary of many was unnoticed, his third concert was followed there, which he gave in the "sin" foyer of the ring cinema. The number of spectators was disappointing, which is regrettable in view of his talented performance.

Cacavas, 63 years old today, celebrated a mixture of Americana and melancholic music that evening. His hits like "Pale Blonde Hell" and "Stupid" circle the classic sounds that you could have imagined with artists like Tom Petty or John Mellencamp. His voice, gentle and powerful at the same time, is in no way inferior to Neil Young.

a mixture of disorder and art

On Thursday evening, Cacavas showed himself unorganized in a sympathetic way. The setlist, which he happened to find in his guitar case before the performance, offered an interesting selection of his works. During his appearance, he played the bard who performs with full heart, especially in pieces such as "flamethrower". Here he really let his talent bloom. In "California" he kidnapped the listeners into a melancholic mood in which he apologized for his destructive fantasies.

In the second part of the concert, Cacavas switched several times to the e-piano and ventured to electronic experiments with loops and feedback, especially in the play "Better Days". These courageous approaches could be viewed as art on a large scale, while the solid size of its performance was undeniable.

In view of the fact that Cacavas lived up both musically and emotionally, the question arises as to why his full potential was not recognized by the music industry earlier. With an unmistakable style that is reminiscent of the past and traps new ways, he remains a unique artist who, despite all his changes in the music scene, remains constant.

A look back at his career shows the unused potential of a musician who lives in a kind of relativity, and yet offered an unforgettable evening full of musical depth in Weiden.
