Birds count for nature conservation: take part in the winter campaign!
The NABU Rhineland-Palatinate calls for participation in the "hour of Winter birds", which will take place from January 10th to 12th, 2025. The aim of this campaign is to capture the bird stocks in Rhineland-Palatinate by observing volunteers. The event is carried out in cooperation with the Landesbund for Bird and Nature Conservation in Bavaria. NABU spokesman Torsten Collet emphasizes the importance of participation, regardless of the weather conditions. This campaign is held for the 15th time, and around 130,000 people in Germany took part in the previous year.
The participants are asked to count birds in front of their window, in the garden or in a park for an hour. The highest number of birds of all kinds, which are visible at the same time, should be noted. Birds are clearly visible this time of year because they hardly sing and the trees are unkind, which makes counting easier. As nabu.de , however, the weather, especially high fog and dipping, can influence bird activity, so that so that could be less active.
recommendations for participation
nabu recommends to feed the birds with high-quality grain feed and carry out bird-friendly garden designs, for example by planting wild fruit bushes, providing leaves and travel piles as well as local shrubs. The "hour of winter birds" represents the largest scientific participation in Germany, and the results can be reported until January 20 at www.stundederwintervoegel.de and with the" NABU Vogelwelt "app.
In addition, the Naju children invite you to the “school lesson of the winter birds”, which will take place from January 13th to 17th to also observe and count domestic winter birds.
