Straubing Tigers celebrate the first win of the season and break the bankruptcy series!

The Straubing Tigers successfully finished their series of defeats in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) on Sunday evening in Schwenningen. With a 2-1 win, the team, led by coach Tom Pokel, returned to the road to success after five painful bankruptcies. In front of 4324 spectators, visitors experienced an intensive duel that was shaped by a strong appearance of the Tigers in the first third.

The first two goals of the game scored the Straubinger. Mike Connolly, the captain of the team, brought his men in the 6th minute with an early goal. Just a minute later, the newcomer Alex Green increased to 2-0 and set the course for away win. However, the hosts, who had already lost to the Tigers in the quarter -finals of the Playoffs in the spring, found back into play in the second third. Zach Senyshyn was able to shorten for Schwenningen when he prevailed against two opponents and sank the puck in the goal.

The struggle for every point

The game was not only shaped by goal -rich moments, but also by physical arguments on the ice. A total of two fist fights escaped the tensions between the two teams, especially the players Joshua Samanski and Alex Green were combative. In addition, goalkeeper Zane Mcintyre proved to be a hero of the game by defending 17 shots on goal and keeping his team on his back. Coach Pokel praised the performance of his goalies and emphasized the team performance: "I am satisfied with every player, everyone has sacrificed themselves for the team and the victory is incredibly important for us."

Despite the narrow victory, the Tigers team is currently in a disappointing third place in the DEL ranking list, with only six points from the first eight games. But coach pokel remains optimistic. "The season is so long. We have now proven that we can," he said. This could be a crucial turning point in the season.

The next test for the Straubinger is on Wednesday when you compete against the Polish club in Ausschwitz, whereby a victory could enable the champions of the Champions League. In addition, a home game against the Adler Mannheim continues on Friday, which will be of great importance in the DEL. The bully is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and is transferred live to magenta.
