Refurbishment of the Church of St. Martin in Herrsching: bells ring again!

A historical moment for the municipality of Herrsching! After seven long years of silence, the bells of the St. Martin Church finally ring again. On Sunday, November 12, 2024, Bishop Dr. Bertram Meier the official conclusion of the comprehensive renovation work, which became necessary after serious defects were found at a relevance test eight years ago. The old church, which was first mentioned in the 12th century, now shines in new splendor and is ready to welcome its visitors again.

The renovation was a feat: the entire electrical system was renewed, the 350 year old oak beams in the bell tower were replaced, and a modern ventilation system ensures that the moist air belongs to the past. "The song leaves no longer crashed on Sunday," said Pastor Simon Rapp. The church, known as a popular wedding location, can now be used again for celebrations. The last work was only completed in late summer, and the solemn reopening was originally planned for April.

Financing the renovation

The total cost of the renovation amounts to around 300,000 euros, of which the church foundation has to raise a share of 120,000 euros. Thanks to generous donations, including a medium five-digit sum from the Charlotte Böhme-Roth Foundation, a large part of the amount has already been collected. Nevertheless, there is a cover gap of 20,000 euros that the municipality wants to continue to close. If you want to help, you can transfer your donation to the St. Nikolaus church foundation.
