Hospital reform: Starnberger clinics in front of major upheavals!

Starnberg, Deutschland - The Starnberg clinics are faced with drastic changes that were initiated by the recent federal hospital reform. This reform, which aims to reorganize and secure the medical care structure, has already led to a tense financial state of the clinics in the Starnberg district. District Administrator Stefan Frey announced that the clinics have been writing red numbers since 2022 and that even higher losses will be identified in 2023. In order to stabilize the situation, the district council provides massive support of 29 million euros, which is over 10% of the total budget volume. According to Frey, the increasing costs due to inflation and tariff increases as well as a decline in the number of patients to the financial imbalance also contributed, reported the Süddeutsche Zeitung .

restructuring and future prospects

In the course of the reform, the Starnberg clinics expect profound restructuring. District Administrator Frey announced that the performance groups required in the future could have an impact on the number of clinics in the district. There are currently four locations: Starnberg, Seefeld, Herrsching and Penzberg. Frey predicted that the existing model is no longer portable and that the medical offers at one or two locations will be necessary. The plans include upgrading one of the clinics to a focus supply facility, which enables an emergency room and comprehensive medical care. These findings come from an expert opinion that the district commissioned to find possible solutions, reported Merkur .

The central questions of future structuring must still be clarified. What specific health services are offered where? District Administrator Frey emphasized that the focus of the new clinic structure is expected to be in gynecology, obstetrics and cardiology, which is already one of the strengths of the clinics. But the uncertainty remains great as to whether all services currently offered can be bundled to the new location. A serious examination of the structural conditions and the affiliation of the changes is now initiated by the responsible bodies.
