Würzburg's dormitory: Students fight against housing shortage!
Schweinfurt, Deutschland - In Würzburg and Schweinfurt, the search for accommodation for students is increasingly problematic. According to a current investigation by the German Studies, only 3,300 dormitory places are available for over 33,000 students in Würzburg, which corresponds to an accommodation rate of almost ten percent, such as meincharivari.de reported. The situation in Schweinfurt gets a little better because about twelve percent of the students find a place in the dorm. Nevertheless, the ongoing housing shortage remains an acute problem that urgently needs to be treated, especially since the number of new students continuously increases.
rising rental prices and limited places
The rental prices for dormitory places in Würzburg are also concerned. The largest provider, the Studentenwerk Würzburg, charges an average of around 383 euros per month for a place. While the prices start at 266 euros, further places are often not available for this tariff, such as mystipendium.de . These developments underline that not only the limited number of dormitories, but also the high costs on the normal housing market represent significant challenges for students.
A glimmer of hope, however, is: An additional 500 dormitory places will soon be opened in Würzburg after some places have been eliminated due to renovation work. This measure could relax the tense situation, but the pressure on the housing market remains because more and more students are flocking to the city, looking for affordable living space and suitable accommodation.
