- Preparations for the controversial gas bore not far from the Ammersee have started, despite the continuing protests by residents and environmentalists.

After months of protests, the mountain office in southern Bavaria has now granted permission and the construction work on the drilling square in Reichling has started. At this work, the Genexco company relies on a location that is located in the municipality of Landsberg am Lech, not far from the Ammersee, popular with tourists. Possible gas deposits are to be opened here at a depth of around 3,000 meters.

The massive excavator campaign has already been concerned with residents. Numerous citizens have teamed up to protest the project. They fear that gas production will have a negative impact on the environment and quality of life in the region. Some residents have even declared that they would refuse to allow the removal of gas through their land, which could consider the plans of Genexco considerably.

The criticism of the holes is considerable. In addition to the affected residents, environmental protection organizations such as Greenpeace also protest against the planned gas funding in Bavaria. According to Saskia Reinbeck from Greenpeace, the holes deteriorate the environmental balance and extend the dependence on fossil fuels. In the face of the global climate crisis and the extreme weather events caused by the earth heating, this is an irresponsible step.

GENEXCO, on the other hand, defends his plans. The company argues that the development of regional gas deposits would bring both economic advantages and a lower environmental impact compared to imported liquid gas. However, this claim is not considered convincing by many, especially by the environmental organizations that advocate alternative energy sources such as wind and geothermal energy.

The discussion about gas drilling in Reichling is thus fueled again. It remains to be seen how the situation will develop, especially with regard to the continuing protests and resistance of the residents who are determined to protect their region and their environment.
