Sensational shark find in the Adriatic: Rare pigment disorder discovered!
In a spectacular find, researchers discovered a very special shark in the Südadria! The spotted sea meadow, which is one of the most mysterious sharks of the oceans, was caught in a trawler trawler trawler in front of the Albanian coastal town of Vlora. This is the first documented case of this type with a pigment disorder that makes the animal appear in a pale appearance with white-grayish spots.
The shark, which usually lives in depths of 50 to 600 meters, is extremely rare. Sea biologist and photographer Elias Neuman reported that the research team under the direction of shark expert Andrej Gajić discovered this extraordinary mutation. The discovery was published in the Journal of Fish Biology and shows that the shark is leuzist, which means that it has only lost pigment. Despite this disorder, the survival of the deep -sea resident does not seem to be affected, which amazed the researchers.
A look at the rare species
The spotted sea might with a body length of up to 1.50 meters is rather small and has a square body shape. The shark found weighed 2.4 kilograms and was male. This species is considered to be threatened with extinction and is on the "red list" of endangered species. The exact causes of the pigment disorder are still unclear, but could include genetic factors, hormonal changes or environmental influences. The researchers emphasize that anthropogenic stress and other factors have to be examined even further in order to better understand the causes.
