GARDINGTAG in St. Wolfgang: Celebrate seven queens and hundreds of apples
On October 10, 2024, a striking garden day took place in St. Wolfgang, which attracted both hobby gardeners and numerous visitors. In the Goldachhalle and on the neighboring school premises, the local gardening association presented a variety of products, whereby the apple was the focus of the event. A true corso of royal representatives, seven in number, underlined the importance of the event, while hundreds of interested parties admire the colorful variety of the products issued.
This year the thematic focus was partly on the bees and other useful insects, but the apple, in all its variations, held the main role. Visitors could enjoy trials in the form of juice, must, liqueur, chips and many delicious baked goods, including the branched classic "apple-kiache".
queens and experts in action
When it comes to the varieties of the apple, the descriptions were as diverse as the varieties themselves. The Prince Albrecht of Prussia is small, but is considered particularly aromatic, while the Lohrer Rambur is known for its crooked form. Among the experts were also five pomologists who welcomed visitors and their apples they brought with them and determined the different varieties. The queues before their status showed how great the interest in these fruit connoisseurs was.
A special creation that the horticultural association offered was the "pastor Hackl". Although this is not an official name, according to expert opinion, this apple is classified as a form of the well -known "Jona Gold". This variety is reminiscent of the former pastor, an enthusiastic fruit builder who breathed new life into many trees in his time. The auction of the "Hackl apples" proved to be great success, and in addition to Boskoop, many other popular varieties were sold.
The freshly squeezed juices of the St. Wolfgang apple kitchen were particularly popular. At the stand it was made clear that around 100,000 liters of juice had already been filled up to the apple in half, with a daily production of up to 6,000 liters. If you wanted to get the taste of these regional products, you could buy it in the local regiomarkt or in the Wenzinger inn in Lengdorf.community and activities
In addition to the delicious apples and their products, the garden day was a platform of the community. The members of the horticultural association were consistently active, when showing sauerkraut production or when answering questions about fruit tree care. For many visitors, the garden day became an unforgettable experience, where not only gardening, but also in the foreground.
The St. Wolfgang Mayor, Ullrich Gaigl, expressed his joy about the enthusiasm for gardening in the region in his speech. "Not only plants grow here, but also friendships," he emphasized, while talking about the positive atmosphere of the event.
With over 700 members, the horticultural association is one of the largest of its kind in the district. The apple queen, Martina Sperr, will wear her crown by the next Gartlerag in 2025 and has covered more than 5,200 kilometers on her way. Their dedication and those of the other participants made this garden day a success, which is known far beyond the borders of St. Wolfgang. The anticipation for the next edition in 2025 is already noticeable.
