Eggenfelden, Deutschland - alarm level red in Eggenfelden! In a hedgehog station, several animals were infected with the dreaded Borna virus. The terrifying discovery has been confirmed by precise studies since July 2024. Four hedgehogs who suffered from the virus died and were sent to the Bavarian animal health service. There the renowned Friedrich Loeffler Institute (Fli) noticed the suspicion of the Borna virus. The hedgehog expert Margot Niedl describes the symptoms: "An affected hedgehog no longer eats, shows strong muscle twitching and can hardly move." There is no cure so far - the Situation is critical!

In order to prevent the virus from spreading further, Niedl has introduced strict hygiene measures. Your team wears disposable gloves when contacting the hinges and regularly disinfects all boxes. If the animals show symptoms, they are immediately put into quarantine. The Borna virus is extremely rare for people, but can be life-threatening. So far, the main transmitters are the Feldspitz mice, which are considered to be the carrier for this dangerous disease. The location remains tense and requires maximum vigilance!
