Roman legionnaires conquer Regensburg: a journey through time to antiquity!
A fascinating look into the past awaits visitors to the new Roman exhibition in Regensburg! On November 19, 2024, the show was opened with an impressive march of Roman legionaries, who kidnapped the audience into the world of ancient warriors. The exhibition illuminates the life of the legionnaires about 2,000 years ago, at the time of the Markomanne Wars when the Roman Empire fought against hostile Germanic tribes on its northern border. These tribes crossed the Danube, looted provinces and destroyed border castles. But Emperor Marc Aurel and his brave legionnaires managed to push the attackers back and to secure the borders.
The show, initiated by Thomas Kurtz by "Mules of Marius", offers a captivating mix of replicas, interactive stations and faithful models that bring the everyday life of the legionnaire alive. "Our exhibition shows very specifically how a new legion of the Roman army has been set up," explains curator Maximilian Ontrup. "We want to show visitors how the Roman army acted in a time of upheaval and what challenges the legionnaires had to cope with." The presentation is not only informative, but also visually impressive, with tin figures that clearly represent the event.

The foundation of the "Reginum" legion camp, which later became known as "Castra Regina", represents the origin of today's Regensburg and is a central point of the exhibition. This exciting journey into the past not only promises educational moments, but also an unforgettable experience for the whole family!
