District finances and clinic reform: challenges for the region 2025

In a decisive meeting of the managers of the district office and the parliamentary group leader in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm, burning topics were discussed that affect the region. The session devoted itself to the Ilmtalklinik, the municipal company Energie and Infrastructure as well as the expansion of local public transport. A central focus was on the household for the coming year, which is of enormous importance for the strategic orientation of the region.

District Administrator Albert Gürtner emphasized the importance of this annual gathering: "The annual meeting offers an important opportunity for everyone involved to jointly develop strategic decisions for the region and to pave the way for sustainable developments." Christian Degen, managing director of the Ilmtalkliniken, warned of the challenges that the upcoming hospital reform brings with it. "The unclear design of the financing leads to financial uncertainties," explained Degen, and demanded flexibility in planning in order to maintain the needs -based care.

Financial challenges in focus

Another critical point was the financial situation of the district budget 2025. District treasurer Walter Reisinger pointed out the limited financial scope that affects both the district and the municipalities. Planned investments in the Ilmtalklinik and local public transport also put a strain on the health insurers. "The maintenance of the district levy at 47 % would mean a deficit of around 11 million euros," warned Reisinger. An increase in the circular levy to just under 50 % could stabilize the household, but would not do without additional debt of around EUR 16 million.

After intensive discussions, the faction heads agreed to increase the circular levy in the coming year in order to meet the financial challenges. "Our own scope for action is very limited," said Gürtner and emphasized the need for these expenses for municipal mandatory tasks. The decision is to be presented to the district council in the spring of 2025 to secure the financial stability of the region.
