Ex-hurricane Kirk brings Bavaria's cities to a standstill-no injuries!
A former hurricane has hit Bavaria in the past few days and caused a lot of excitement. The storm, which is called ex-hurricane Kirk, reached wind speeds of over 100 km/h in various regions of the Free State and left a trace of devastation. Fortunately, despite the chaotic situation without personal injury, the emergency services had to become active in many cities.
A maximum value of 105.5 km/h was measured in particular in Würzburg, followed by strong winds in the Rhön and in Wunsiedel. The summit of the Brauneck was also not allowed to be happy and registered similarly high values. The German Weather Service (DWD) reported on the partly dramatic effects of the storm, which resulted in numerous emergency calls and operations by the fire brigade.
operations of the emergency services
In the city and the surrounding area of Würzburg, the integrated control center counted 30 weather -related operations, which were largely caused by fallen trees. Fortunately, there were no injuries, although some trees fell on vehicles and power lines. In Nuremberg, on the other hand, the situation with around 200 emergency calls and 80 missions by the fire brigade was a little tense, but here too the region was largely spared.
In addition, Deutsche Bahn announced that some tracks were blocked there by falling trees. One of the direct consequences of the storm was the temporary closure of the zoo in Augsburg as a security measure. The clean -up work was extensive because many roads were blocked and the emergency services were on duty around the clock. Despite the uncomfortable circumstances, those responsible are relieved that there are no personal injury.
Current weather development
Against noon, a spokesman for the DWD reported that the worst was over and the situation in most parts of the country relaxed. Nevertheless, there were warnings of storm gusts in individual regions, especially in the Alps and in the Bavarian Forest. Just a short time after the storm, the DWD announced that rain shower and isolated thunderstorms could follow, while the snowfall border in the Alps would drop to about 1,500 meters. In the coming days, the North Bavarian regions should be a mix of wet and frosty weather.
Interestingly, despite the winter harbing, a quick weather calming is expected. On the coming days, the thermometer could increase up to 19 degrees again, which could cause unusual Bavarian autumn weather. For further updates and information about the current weather situation, it is advisable to regularly pay attention to the reports of the DWD in order to be well prepared. For those who want to keep an overview of the situation, there is a daily newsletter who informs about all important news from Bavaria.
