Christmas without religion: meet in three types!

In the run -up to Christmas, various surveys show that the Germans diversify their view of Christmas. A current study by the Bundeswehr University in Munich has shown that around 48 percent of those surveyed, the majority, still value their family together with the family, while the religious importance of the festival hardly plays a role for them. The survey, which has asked about 1,200 people representative about age, gender and origin, identified three main types of holiday celebrations. About 34.7 percent are among the "pragmatics" who see Christmas as a time of calm and enjoyment without great "bling-bling", while only 17 percent value traditional religious customs and music. This result illustrates how the festive culture towards a more common and less religious celebration develops, such as 2019 pre-corona level when 24 percent of those surveyed participated in such a service. Although religious topics have recently ranked with the Christmas priorities, according to the survey, the value of the basic knowledge of their background is remarkably high - about 60 percent know the importance of the word Advent, which means "arrival". The survey illustrates the changed priorities at Christmas time, whereby time with the loved ones and good food is in the top priority, such as Domradio Fixed.
