Increasing demand: Paderborn's airport relies on business trips!
Paderborn, Deutschland - The Paderborn/Lippstadt Airport has a gratifying trend on individual business trips. In the 2024 financial year, the division of business trips rose by 15 percent, which increased the number of business flights to a total of 2,536. This is particularly noteworthy because many German airports have not yet reached the pre-corona level, which is particularly due to a decline in business trips. The Lufthansa connection to Munich, which is often used by business travelers, is well utilized.
Roland Hüser, managing director of the airport, was optimistic about increasing demand in the area of business trips. Compared to 2019, the recovery rate is 118 percent. In addition, there is confidence that an initiative to continue the route to Munich can be successful from June 2025, which will be supported by the airport. The Paderborn Airport acts as a home airport for travelers from East Westphalia-Lippe, South Westphalia and adjacent regions and offers a variety of services such as line and tourism flights as well as business and private charter traffic.
initiative to secure the connection to Munich
An additional initiative to secure the business trip to Munich was launched because Lufthansa plans to stop the route from summer 2025. This happens due to the high state cost burden. In order to obtain the connection, the establishment of a separate flight operating company is planned, which will take over flight operations from June 2025. District Administrator Christoph Rüther supports this private initiative, and there are talks between the airport managers and regional industrial and commercial chambers to ensure the connection.
Numerous entrepreneurs and private individuals have agreed to support the establishment financially. Member of the Bundestag Dr. Carsten Linnemann has also initiated the initiative to found the flight operating company. In addition, Lufthansa, in cooperation with a regional airline, is examining the continuation of the transfer connection via Munich. The possibility of an interline agreement with an operating airline is also considered. Christoph Plass, board member of the Unity and Vice President of the IHK Ostwestfalen zu Bielefeld, is responsible for the foundation. The aim is to develop your own business line for the region, whereby the flight operating company should be founded promptly in order to continue discussions with Lufthansa and other partners.
