Paderborn plans its own airline: Dat could save Munich flights!
München, Deutschland - The Lufthansa plans the end of its connection between Paderborn and Munich with the summer flight schedule 2025. This means that Paderborn/Lippstadt Airport loses its only connection to a large turnstile. But in East Westphalia-Lippe there are already efforts not to accept this loss. According to reports the Neue Westfälische are conducted to found a new virtual airline that could take over the missing flights. The Danish Airline Danish Air Transport (DAT) is mentioned as a potential partner.
The CDU member of the Bundestag Carsten Linnemann has confirmed that the talks with the DAT are already underway. This airline could fly the route to Munich from summer 2025, while a newly founded operating company sells the tickets itself and hopes for a cooperation with Lufthansa. Lufthansa had previously made the connection with regional jets that are no longer profitable due to a decline in demand, so that alternatives urgently need to be sought, as well as aerotelegraph.com reported.
So far, the DAT already flies on other inner German routes and could possibly also operate the route from Paderborn to Munich with their ATR machines, which offer space for up to 72 passengers. The local economy is very interested in this connection, since a large part of the passengers from the region has so far been out in Munich, which shows that the demand is available. Those responsible are currently reviewing the economic framework to advance the establishment of a new airline without currently making definitive decisions.
