Copper museum Pähl: a jewel for art lovers and history fans!

In the Pähler district of Fischen, district of Weilheim-Schongau, the world's only copper museum is founded by Evelyn and Siegfried Kuhnke, a 90-year-old couple. The two met in 1952 in Munich and married in 1957. In 1966 she led her together interest in art to open a business for art and antiques in Munich-Nymphenburg. In 1994 they expanded their business and also opened a restaurant in the renovated Hofmarkmühle in Pähl.

The museum shows an impressive collection of over 1,500 objects of art and art historically and forms of use that range from prehistoric to the modern period. Special exhibits include baroque kitchen appliances and a kitchen stove from the Possenhofen Castle, on which the later Empress Sisi prepared her cocoa, such as Kreis Bote reported.

About the collection in the copper museum

Siegfried Kuhnke, who has been collecting artificial objects from copper for over 45 years, and is a former sworn expert at the IHK Munich, shows a variety of objects in the museum. The collection ranges from copper axes from the copper era to valuable exhibits from the baroque period, the Empire, historicism and Art Nouveau. The objects are grouped both chronologically and thematically and reflect on the taste of the time as well as the needs of the respective epochs, such as copper museumfischen.de explained.

The exhibition provides a comprehensive insight into the cooking, baking and eating habits of past times and shows the variety of different tools. Certificates from the last two world wars that document the destruction of valuable copper objects are also part of the collection. In 2023 the museum was expanded by 200 square meters and the team offers exclusive tours during the winter break that can be booked by email.
