Bridge fall on A8: The route remains closed that long!

The traffic situation on the A8, A81 and A831 motorways around Stuttgart remains tense after parts of a bridge have fallen onto the road today. In particular, the A81 in the direction of Stuttgart-Vaihingen is only navigable. Reduced traffic flows and traffic jams affect not only the A81, but also the A8 and the B14, which are currently experiencing standstill. According to swr3 , some lanes have already been released, however, comprehensive exams on the affected bridge are temporarily leading to further restrictions. Experts are currently examining the substance of the bridge that has suspicious parts that have fallen. Each examination counts to ensure the safety and load capacity of the construction.

A possible solution for the high traffic load is already in the starting blocks: a festive festival was inaugurated on Wednesday on Wednesday. The new construction, which was considered inadequate since 1939 and partly had cracks, is primarily intended to reduce through traffic, which has previously been burdened by the residents. The construction work for this urgently needed infrastructure measure began at the end of 2021, and the initiated bridge is to be integrated into regular traffic on May 27 to end the provisional traffic via the steel bridge. Since the old bridge could no longer carry the loads and was not sufficient for heavy traffic, the new bridge will bring a significant relief for the traffic between Stuttgart and Munich.
