Wiesn-Nostalgie: This is how the showmen live in historic caravans!

in Munich, where the Oktoberfest is celebrated, the anticipation among the showmen is great. For many of them, Theresienwiese becomes a temporary home, where they combine tradition, nostalgia and modern amenities. Two families, the Konrads and the Kaisers, introduce us to their mobile living worlds, which could hardly be more different.

Claus Konrad and his family live during the Oktoberfest in a historic construction trailer that is more than a century old. The car, which belongs to one of the old rides, the Toboggan, was personally restored by Claus with great attention to detail. "Everything in the service of nostalgia," explains the 56-year-old, who, like his father Rudolf, who grew up in this car, keeps up with tradition. During the Oktoberfest he spends up to six weeks in this rustic home and enjoys the feeling that the rain is pounding on the roof. "Holding up the tradition makes me proud," he adds.

from the historic caravan to modern mobility

The caravan, which sleeps in a hall next to the driving business parts during the year, is transported to Munich in front of the festival. Claus drives a classic car tractor that no longer pulls oxen with it, but still keeps tradition alive. "I would never have sold him, too many memories," he emphasizes, pointing out that he has already rejected purchase offers of up to 70,000 euros. The caravan also has a 3 meter long veranda that is not new, but comes from its ancestors, which once served the meals employees.

In the Konrad caravan, there are numerous modernizations such as a mini bath, a fully automatic coffee machine and modern power lines. "In the past you had a Potscharl on bed, everyone knew well," notes Claus with a smile. This mix of tradition and progress makes life very special during the Oktoberfest.

status and comfort in the Bavaria Tower

The Kaisers, who are also on tour from Easter to the Oktoberfest, enjoy all the amenities of a real home, including the television, stove and even a dishwasher. This luxury is not cheap - your mobile dwelling costs between 100,000 and 300,000 euros. Nevertheless, life in the Kaiser's caravan seems to be closer to a real family life.

The roots of the Kaiser family go back to the circus period, which helps them to maintain the balance between tradition and modernity. While Egon heads the shops, Heidi takes care of the household and family. Her daughter Zoe is going to graduate from school during the Ontour period and thus brings a touch of normality to her travel life.

The insights into both living concepts show how different ways of life come together at the showmen at the Oktoberfest. While the Konrads live in a nostalgic swing that is full of memories, the emperors enjoy the advantages of modern technology and the comfort of a large living space. However, both lifestyles have one thing in common: an unfamiliar tradition of tradition with deep rooting in the Oktoberfest culture.

These different forms of living not only reflect the individual history of families, but also the creative ways, how showmen live the festival, whether looking for nostalgic memories or modern amenities. as already reported on www.tz.de The Konrads and the emperors have a fascinating insight into the variety of showmen during the Oktoberfest.
