Tempo 30 in Schondorf: Mayor outraged by the authorities decision!
Schondorf, Deutschland - A dramatic encounter between the municipalities of Schondorf and Utting and the lower road building authority in the Landsamt Landsberg causes excitement! Mayor Alexander Herrmann (Greens) had great hopes that at Christmas Tempo 30 signs could be set up on the busy Gabdorfer local road. But the authority has now thwarted these plans and rejects the speed reduction. The outrage in the affected places is great, because the communities have been fighting for better noise protection for their residents for years.
The rejection of the Tempo 30 regulation is a severe blow for the residents who suffer from the noise of up to 15,000 vehicles every day. According to reports, 475 people in Schondorf are affected by street noise during the day and 247 at night, while in Utting 326 during the day and 246 at night suffer from noise pollution. The road building authority argues that continuous speed reduction at 30 km/h is inadmissible and instead suggests passive noise protection measures such as soundproof windows. Herrmann is outraged: "I think it is an outrage how it is argued here. The need for protection of people from noise is put behind the law of the driver."
a fight for noise protection
The decision of the authority is also sharply criticized by Mayor Florian Hoffmann (LWG) from Utting. He cannot understand why the number of residents concerned is considered too low. The municipalities got legal support from the Munich law firm AVR, which was already successful in similar cases. Hoffmann is combative: "Our lawyer clearly assumes the feasibility of the action plan."
based on the successful implementation of a Tempo 30 section in the neighboring community of Inning, where a similar noise action plan was enforced, the municipal councils of Schondorf and Utting have decided to appeal to the government of Upper Bavaria. If this is not fruitful, the communities are ready to take the legal process and to sue their service authority. The struggle for noise protection and the health of the residents continue!
