Kratzenkeller is being the living place of remembrance: New studio planned!

In the heart of Landsberg am Lech, there are profound changes on the historical site of the former scratcher. As the Kreisbote is to be created there, which is reminiscent of the dp camp the Second World War existed on this site. This project was recently presented in the city council and is intended to act as a "lively memory, meeting and learning location". In addition to a permanent exhibition on the history of the DP camp, lectures and educational events are also planned to strengthen the intercultural dialogue and convey democratic values.

However, the plans for the studio have caused mixed reactions. Some city councils like Daniela Groß expressed concerns about the Greens and wondered what effects the creation of a memorial on the previously planned memorial for the former Kaufering VII concentration camp. Especially for Kaufering VII there is already a scientific concept for a memorial and a state funding commitment. These developments are not to be neglected, since they could significantly influence the work of memory in the region, such as the Augsburger General reported. She emphasizes that, in addition to the new initiatives in the Kratzenkeller, the city should not forget the existing plans for Kaufering VII.

a place of memory

The city administration has made it clear that it is about securing historical places for the future. With the creation of the contemporary history studio, new impulses for memory work are to be given. Despite this positive development, the question of relationship with Kaufering VII remains unresolved. Mayor Doris Baumgartl and other city councilors agree that it is important to keep dialogue open about historical processing and not to consider the projects as competition. Rather, they should complement each other and appreciate the deep history of the region in order to enable a reflected examination of the past even future generations.
