Kulmbach: Animal shelter saves over 30 animals from cruel Hoarding-Haus

Kulmbach: Animal shelter saves over 30 animals from cruel Hoarding-Haus

In an alarming situation, employees of the Kulmbach animal shelter, in cooperation with the veterinary office, saved over 30 animals from an overcrowded Animal Hoarding House. This practice, in which people keep an inappropriate number of animals in their living rooms, often leads to abuse and health problems of the animals concerned. Animal shelter Angelika Enzmann sees a worrying increase in Franconia. 'This is getting more and more,' she says, while pointing out the trouble of the animal shelter, which is carried out every year several such rescue actions.

In the current case, which took place in early October 2024, the helpers took a total of three dogs, 16 cats and several ornamental birds in their care. The circumstances under which the animals were held were tragic. Overall, these animal fates were confirmed by other animal shelters, such as that in Nuremberg, which was recently also faced with 70 neglected animals.

The sad reality of the saved animals

A sad chapter of this rescue operation are the conditions in which some of the animals lived. According to the veterinary office, the shelter was ready to pick up the animals. 'We wrapped up what's going on', Enzmann describes the hectic but necessary rescue operation, in which a total of over 30 animals could leave the cruel fate behind. The fate of a mother cat and its six newborns, which, weak and hypothermic, unfortunately did not survive. Her story is just one of many examples that illustrate the dramatic circumstances.

Nevertheless, there were also positive stories-so an older collie lady was saved, which, despite their long claws and hopelessness, has now found a new home. Her suffering, which was characterized by a mammatumor and malnutrition, has found another outcome than is often the case in this case. However, not all animals were the same luck: a neglected hangover and two other animals had to be euthanased due to their critical condition, which underlines the urgency of such rescue actions.

The challenge of mediation

The survivors are now looking for a new home. The Kulmbach animal shelter hopes to be able to make their future positively. Nevertheless, there are still many questions open: vaccinations have to be checked and castrations are clarified in some of the cats. Among the rescued animals there are also two laughing pigeons as well as the two dogs, a Chihuahua bitch named Donna and a bulldog named Tyson. The shelter emphasizes that these two get along incredibly well and do not do anything to each other.

The two dogs not only have character strengths, but also their own quirks: Tyson, for example, has the funny idiosyncrasy to smash plastic food bowls and to convert the metal everywhere. The animal shelter employees invite interested parties to contact them to offer Donna and Tyson - ideally together - to offer a loving home. Such views are necessary to create the right environment for the saved animals.

The incidents in Kulmbach and the parallel cases that come to light in other parts of Franconia also lead a light on the need for education and prevention in the area of animal welfare.
