In Pfarrweisach, a self -defense course for women has started, which is very popular. Organized by the municipality and the Haßberge district in cooperation with the Volkshochschule (VHS), the demand did not stop at the 30 registrations that have already been determined. Christine Stühler, the equal opportunities officer of the district office, opened the course and expressed her regret that other interested parties had to cancel. The event takes place in the gymnasium of the primary school and extends over five evenings.

The variety of participants is particularly remarkable. Among the registrations was even a grandma grandchildren, with the 68-year-old grandmother participating as motivated as her 22-year-old granddaughter. But what makes women learn self -defense? At the opening of the course, the participants received an important note. A study shows that the likelihood of becoming a victim of an assault will decrease by 75 percent if you take part in a self -defense course. This is not only due to the learned defense techniques, but also to de -escalating behavior, which is also conveyed.

for the course -goded coach Harald Rögner, who has already brought experience and qualifications in self -defense. Stühler emphasized that the equality office of the district office together with the women's shelter in Schweinfurt and the associated advisory offer and the Weißen Ring e.V. are pulling together. Their goal is to support women who became victims of domestic or sexual violence, and to offer them opportunities for advice and help.

The cooperation between the district and the municipality is also expressed in the costs of the course: the municipality of Pfarrweisach not only provides the gymnasium free of charge, but is also financially involved, which is clearly reflected in the success of the course. Stühler thanked the community for her support and pointed out that there are also other advice centers that can serve women as the first point of contact.
