Awareness of cell phone dangers: prevention week at Neumarkt schools!

in Neumarkt i.d.opf. Started from 7 to 11 October 2024, an important project for the prevention of criminal offenses that are related to cell phone use. The aim is to educate over 400 students from the West Middle School, the boy's secondary school and the Willibald-Gluck-Gymnasium about the risks of their carefree cell phone use. Initiated by the Neumarkt I.D.Opf police inspection. In cooperation with the Weissen Ring e.V., the public prosecutor's office in Nuremberg-Fürth and other institutions, the project should sensitize young people for topics such as cyberbullying and child pornography.

The first day of the project included a press event at the Willibald-Gluck-Gymnasium, where media representatives were invited to get an insight into the workshops. These workshops are located at various local institutions that work together to convey the necessary knowledge of the potential dangers of internet consumption to the students.

Enlightenment by workshops

At several stations, the students together with experts develop the various crimes that are made possible by smartphones. In the district building of the Neumarkt police, prevention officials provide information about cybercrime. Another workshop, which is headed by the Weißen Ring e.V., deals with the effects of crimes on the victims. Here the pupils are informed about help and protective measures against cyberbullying.

A highlight of the program takes place in a negotiating hall of the Neumarkt District Court, where the young people slip into the roles of judges, prosecutors and defenders. This practical exercise is intended to provide a better understanding of the right effects of crimes.

In order to increase the participation and commitment of the students, the young people are asked to collect a certain hashtag. The aim is to complete the hashtag #no mobile phone perpetrator who leads them to a special video of an influencer. Marvin Sperber, known as MarvintSp, spontaneously visited the workshops and told about his own experiences with bullying, which met with great interest among the students.

The project is strongly supported by regional personalities, including police chief Thomas Schöniger and district administrator Willibald Gailler, who actively participated in the press talks and willingly answered questions. The prevention week offers extensive opportunities for clarification and information about the dangers of cell phone use until October 11th.

This makes it clear how important it is to sensitize young people to the risks of digital life. The cooperation of various institutions shows that prevention is a common concern in today's world to protect and clarify young people.
