New Garden of Silence: Freising University Community Change!

A new wind blows through the University community Freising! This winter semester is all about change and renewal. University pastor Anne Lüters, who worked for almost two decades in Freising, is leaving the city at the end of November to go to Nuremberg as a city pastor. Your departure leaves a gap, but the community does not stop. While the search for a successor is still running, the site of the university community is redesigned.

The "Garden of Still" at Hohenbachernstraße 9 becomes a retreat for students and employees. The idyllic but overgrown garden is now intensively transformed. Over 1000 new perennials are planted to create an inviting atmosphere, and eight seating groups offer space to relax and learn. "The garden now looks much larger," explains Lüters, who hopes that the garden will be used particularly at the end of the semester. Loud conversations are undesirable here - calm and contemplation are in the foreground.

The project for redesign comes from Veronika Herrmann, who won a student competition with her design "In silence". The implementation of the plan has so far costs around 30,000 euros, and there is hope for further financial support from the archdiocese. The entrance area is also to be designed more attractive to improve access to the garden, which is currently blocked by two parking spaces. "The picture of the garden is disturbed," says Daniela Hamm, who was part of the jury.

But that's not all! The university community also offers a diverse program this semester that includes yoga, meditation and language cafés. Services take place every second Tuesday, followed by meals together. The topics of sustainability and conscious meat consumption are also on the agenda.
