Karl Obermayr receives memorial: solemn revelation in Freising!
Freising will soon be richer for another important monument. At a special ceremony, a bronze statue will be unveiled on Saturday, October 12, 2024 in honor of the famous actor Karl Obermayr. The statue, which was placed at its location on Moosach on Monday, is considered long overdue by many. Obermayr, known for his role as a "headk Manni" in the popular TV series "Monaco Franke", will experience a well-deserved appreciation in his hometown.
The installation of the impressive figure, which was attached to the levels of the Moosach opposite the Furnerbräu, was curious by numerous onlookers. The entire assembly took about three hours and required the use of a scaffolding to secure the statue safely. This was finally attached with the help of four large -dimensioned fastening rods and inserted into a hole about 30 centimeters deep. The moment when the statue found its place was a highlight for those present.
The long way to the statue
The way to complete the monument was neither short nor simple. The idea of building a statue of Karl Obermayr arose in 2020 when the Freising Stadtheimatpflege founded the goal of honoring this great son of the city. After tough three years, characterized by donation acquisition and an art competition, this dream is now fulfilled.
2022 the competition for artists from all over Germany was advertised. 20 different suggestions were submitted and the Freising population had the opportunity to vote for their favorites. Experts and political representatives were also included in the selection process. The decision fell on a statue that is very lifelike and actually very close to the visualization that was seen on the club's homepage for months.
The artist Ioana Luca, who lives in Düsseldorf, stands out as the creator of this monument. Originally from Romania, it has long been a fan of Karl Obermayr and his unforgettable TV presence. When she participated in the competition, she realized that she wanted to create something unique with her design. In order to capture the characteristic features and the charisma of Obermayr, she studied numerous videos and pictures of the actor.
financing and design
The financing of the project was a challenge. Despite the initial difficulties, the financial means were finally secured through large donations of two foundations-the Edith Haberland-Wagner Foundation as well as humans and creation-Otto and Therese Stumpf Foundation. This support was crucial to implement the statue into reality.
The statue itself was cast in a foundry in Rinteln in bronze, with the latest 3D technology being used to transmit the model into life-size dimensions. Ioana Luca explained that the statue was about two meters high, a conscious design decision to give the figure outdoors more presence. A certain focus was chosen, so that Karl Obermayr, like his statue of the Compagnon Helmut Fischer on Munich freedom, traffic and passers -by, can observe.
On Saturday, the statue is officially unveiled in a solemn ceremony. After the opening speech by the chairman of the city home care association, Bernhard Reiml, and a greeting from Mayor Tobias Eschenbacher, the art mediator Angela Flohr will also talk about the importance of Karl Obermayr and the statue.
The long development process has ended its end and the bronze figure is already in its place, but is still covered. The Freising population can look forward to the celebrations for the unveiling and thus experience the appreciation of a beloved inhabitant of her city. For all interested parties, the full picture of Karl Obermayr, which is now firmly anchored as a symbol for his achievements in art, is both a cultural and a historical highlight for Freising, and one wonders how adult the reactions will be on this new monument.
This project once again shows how important it is not only to name the achievements of local icons, but also to celebrate it artistically and symbolically. An even more detailed view of the event can be found on www.merkur.de .
