Freising and Groß-Enzersdorf celebrate 1,300 years of town twinning
A delegation from the Bavarian City of Freising recently made its way to Groß-Enzersdorf to celebrate a very special occasion: the 1,300th anniversary of its city twinning. The celebrations were filled with historical and cultural highlights, which once again demonstrated the close connection between the two cities.
The anniversary is of particular importance for Freising, since it was also 1,300 in 2024. Birthday by Korbinian, one of the most important saints in the city. As part of this event, 49 members of the Association for Cities Partnerships and Urban Freundnations Freising e. V. to Austria, including the former mayor Dieter Thalhammer, City Councilor Toni Frankl and Deacon Walter Schwind. Her stay in Groß-Enzersdorf was both a tribute to the past and a festival of friendship.

A varied program ensured that the guests learned a lot about the history and culture of Groß-Enzersdorf. A visit to the Carnuntum Archeology Park received special attention, where the Freisinger could take a journey into the past and visit the fascinating excavations of the Roman city. In addition, there was a guided city tour, which was led by the cultural agents Gerald Bichinger and Josef Redl and offered interesting information about the historical sites of the city.
The warm atmosphere of the event was supplemented by a social evening in the parish hall, where Pastor Arkadiusz Borowski welcomed the guests. As part of a ceremony, small guest gifts were exchanged, which represent the symbol for the long -term urban friends. This tradition of gift strengthens the connections between the partner cities and illustrates the respect and appreciation for each other.
On the last day of the stay, guests also took part in a special event: the "Day of Security". In addition, there was the possibility to visit the popular fresh market, which gave the guests an insight into the local products and the culinary offer of the region. A highlight was the exclusive tour of the new city hall, which serves as a modern center for events and cultural activities.
Mayor Monika Obereigner-Sivec, after the celebrations, expressed a positive statement: "The visit once again showed how alive and constant friendship between Groß-Enzersdorf and Freising is." These activities not only consolidate the cultural gang between the cities, but also offer a platform for the exchange of ideas and traditions. In times when friendships are often put to the test, it is important to actively maintain and revive such relationships.
This connection between Groß-Enzersdorf and Freising is an important example of the values of cooperation and mutual respect, which are often considered essential in today's societies.
