Referee star Benjamin Cortus enthusiastically inspires insider views!

As part of a month meeting on October 7, 2024, there was a special highlight: Benjamin Cortus, the former referee of the first Bundesliga and now Video Assistant Referee, visited the event and impressed those present with his passion for the referee job. In addition to his work in the video assist system, Cortus is active as a youth coach and has paved prospective referees by motivating them to step into the footsteps of his experience.

The meetings were very interested in because numerous new referees who were inspired by Cortus were present for the first time. Luca Fritsch, the district's teaching attendant, had previously collected questions from the referees who were answered during a lively interview by Cortus. With his humorous style and open answers, he ensured a pleasant atmosphere that made it easier for the young referees to express their concerns and questions.

insights into the referee career

Cortus told about the ups and downs of his career, which gave the audience valuable insights into the real challenges and successes. A central point of his lecture was the advice not to be demoralized by setbacks. He encouraged the new referees to assert themselves against setbacks and always believe in their skills. Cortus' experiences as a referee and Var, i.e. as a video interpreter in football, offered a unique view of the diverse aspects of the referee.

Among the highlights of his career, Cortus was some unforgettable experiences on the square that shaped him and further strengthened his love for the game. He also spoke about the unexpected turns that a referee can meet. An impressive demonstration of penalty area scenes under the motto "Expect the Unexpected" (expected the unexpected) was an exciting lesson for everyone present.

At the end of the event, Luca Fritsch Cortus presented a little thank you for his informative and entertaining lecture, while chairman Stefan Stadelmann expressed his thanks for the valuable contributions from Cortus. This session was not only instructive, but also an excellent opportunity for the new referees to network and benefit from the experiences of such an experienced colleague.
