Colorful heart pillow for breast cancer patients: Quilting Bee helps in Erlangen
In an impressive act of solidarity, the talented seamstresses of the Patchwork Group Quilting Bee Herzogenaurach have again brought color to the women's clinic of the University Hospital Erlangen! Since 2010, these committed women have been committed to supporting breast cancer patients with lovingly handmade heart pillows. These pillows are not only a colorful accessory, but also offer real consolation and relieve pain after breast cancer surgery.
The group has now sewed and distributed an incredible 5,150 of these unique pillows. During the recent handover, Doris Wienke, the spokeswoman for the Quilting Bee, presented the latest pillows to the doctor Dr. Katharina Seitz and physiotherapist Mario Witter. "We sew from fabric donations and residues all year round. On the day of the action there is coffee and cake for our volunteers who fill the pillows," said Wienke with a smile.
practical help for patients
The colorful, heart -shaped pillows are more than just a nice gift. You have a practical benefit: clamped under your armpit, help reduce swelling in your arms, reduce feelings of pressure and support wound healing and lymph flow after breast cancer surgery. "Our patients tell us that the pillows last for years," emphasized Witter. The careful selection of the filling ensures that the pillows are neither too hard nor too soft. "We have tested many different manufacturers for the first pillows and have always ordered the same filling from the same supplier," added Wienke.
As soon as the pillows are handed over, the seamstresses are already at the work for the next day of action, which is planned for October 2025. The tireless dedication of this group shows how much love and care is in every single pillow - a really warm contribution to supporting women in difficult times!Details | |
