Mass flood wave devastated Freising: fire brigades in continuous use!
On the night of Tuesday, the Freising district was haunted by a violent storm that flooded numerous streets and let the basement run full. In an unusually short time of just a few hours, it is said to have occurred regional rainfall of up to 70 liters per square meter. Around 250 firefighters were clamped to cope with the effects of the water masses and counted around 100 missions.
The place Sünzhausen was particularly affected, where a "meter -high tidal wave" shot through the streets and tore everything that was not fortified. The neighboring towns such as Massenhausen, Giggenhausen, Fahrzhausen and Kranzberg also suffered from similar conditions. In Giggenhausen, the fire station itself was affected by the water masses, which made the Situation even more difficult.
The use of the fire brigade
The fire departments were immediately deployed to remedy the damage caused by the rain. In Kleinisenbach, a suburb of Fahrzhausen, 100 sandbags had to be made available to protect an agricultural property from the penetrating water. A total of 35 fire brigades from the district were mobilized, supported by 25 emergency services from the Technical Relief Agency (THW) Freising.
In order to relieve the integrated control center in Erding, a team was set up at the headquarters in Freising, which coordinated the missions around the clock. Until the early hours of the morning, the emergency services were employed with pumping cellars, especially in Thalhausen and Kirchdorf, while the water masses had to be gripped.
District fire inspector Helmut Schmid was surprised at the extent of the storm: "It came without appropriate warnings or weather forecasts." Despite the extreme conditions, the good news failed to do that there were no personal injury or oil damage. "The water in the buildings is bad enough," said Schmid, especially since a flood in June had only affected the region a few months earlier.

The residents were able to contain the fire themselves, but the alarmed fire departments later discovered a significant heat load in the rigipes over the fire stove. To prevent further damage, the ceiling had to be opened and the insulation had to be deleted. Fortunately, there were no injuries in this incident, but the police estimated the property damage at around 50,000 euros, whereby a technical defect is suspected as the cause, as reports www.merkur.de .
Overall, it was a night full of challenges in which the firefighters did their best despite considerable adversity to protect the population and to eliminate the damage. The behavior and quick reaction of the emergency services have prevented worse and show the importance of a well -organized emergency reaction in times of crisis.
