Future of our forests: This is how we secure biodiversity and climate!
forests are much more than just trees - they are the green heart of our landscape! But the threat from climate change and species death is real and pushes our forests to the edge. In the Ebersberg-Erding region, these challenges are now being fought with all his might. Christoph Meder, the head of the Waldnaturschutz Upper Bavaria department, emphasizes: "Biodiversity is the key to climatic and sustainable forest stands." The authorities do everything they can to promote biodiversity in the domestic forests in order to make them more resistant to the challenges of climate change.
A active forest conversion, the preservation of biotope trees and the promotion of dead wood are at the top of the agenda. "The more diverse the forest, the healthier it is," says Meder. These measures are not only a profit for nature, but also a decisive factor for people. A healthy forest can better protect us from the consequences of climate change, be it due to higher resistance to dryness or by binding carbon. As part of the Wald (VNP Wald) contract nature protection program, forest owners even receive financial support for the preservation of these valuable trees - up to 220 euros per tree, depending on the type and diameter!
a strong signal for the future
In 2023, around 41,000 biotope trees were funded in Bavaria. Meder describes this number as "great success" and a "strong signal for the future". These trees are not only habitats for endangered species, but also an indispensable contribution to the preservation of our natural heritage. The Bavarian Forest Administration is at the side of the forest owners and offers comprehensive advice on natural management. "The future of the forests depends on the decisions that we make today," warns Meder and calls for responsibility.
The Wald contract nature protection program focuses on biotope trees - living trees with special ecological structures that are indispensable for many species. These include woodpecker trees with caves or dead wood that offers habitat for numerous organisms. The support of the forest owners is crucial to transform the forests into a valuable legacy for future generations.
