Flood aid in Bavaria: Farmers fight for fair compensation!

In the districts of Donau-Ries and Dillingen, farmers and citizens have taken a look back at the action after devastating floods. At the Hofgut Bäldlechwaige in Rettingen, affected farmers reported on the traumatic experiences during the natural disaster. The emotions were high when district chairman Karlheinz Götz showed the devastating pictures of the flood. "I don't wish that he has to experience this natural disaster a second time," said Götz. The clean -up work began immediately when the water withdrew, but the return to normality is difficult. Many affected companies criticize the estimates of the damage as inadequate and not in line with the market, since initially a damage capacity and minimum damage amount was determined that do not do justice to real losses.

The quick reaction of the Bavarian state with an auxiliary program, however, attached to previous requirements that were checked by the Court of Auditors and turned out to be complicated. Numerous discussions with political decision-makers, including CSU MPs Wolfgang Fackler and Manuel Knoll and Minister of Agriculture Michaela Kaniber, finally led to improvements in the compensation guidelines. These now include an increase in compensation height in the Riedstrom to 80 percent and the cancellation of the damage capacity in many cases. Nevertheless, there is a great disappointment with the withdrawal of the federal administration with regard to the flood aid, which was originally promised.

The Julius Kühn-Institut (JKI) in Kleinmachnow calls up the agricultural practitioners to participate in a survey of estimating damage caused by weather extremes in Kleinmachnow. This project is intended to develop a system for extreme weather monitoring that will help farmers in the future to be better prepared for weather -related risks. Participation in the survey is considered important to create the scientific data situation that is required to advise farmers. The results are to be published on the EMRA web portal by spring and represent a central building block for the future support of agriculture, as well as Julius-kuehn.de

Also with the request for submitting current damage reports, one would like to enable faster aids so that pragmatic solutions can be derived from the serious flood experience for the future.
