Large exercise in the retirement home: Fire brigade trains an emergency in Monheim!

in Monheim, a quiet city in the Donau-Ries district, an impressive emergency training was recently carried out in a retirement home. During this large -scale exercise, thick smoke rose from the windows of the upper floor, as if an actual fire had broken out. Firefighters and rescue workers were quickly on hand to counter the supposed emergency while the access roads were closed to the facility.

The whole thing was only a drill to train the emergency services for the emergency. This exercise not only helped the firefighters to improve their skills in rescue, but also to optimize cooperative communication between different rescue organizations. The aim was to test and evaluate the internal processes of the care facility for a possible fire.

Before carrying out the exercise, the responsible persons of the fire brigade and the emergency services worked closely with the leaders of the retirement home in order to develop a realistic use scenario. This provided for a fire in the attic, with trapped and missing persons to evacuate. The smoke was simulated by fog machines, which created an authentic feeling of urgency.

In the attic, 15 people who have been shown by extras should be saved. After the fire alarm system was triggered, the home employees immediately made an emergency call. The fire brigade commander, Tobias Ferber, quickly recognized the severity of the situation and increased the alarm level. As a result, various fire brigades were brought in, together with support groups of the local operations management and additional rescue workers such as the Red Cross.

The focus was on the fast and effective rescue. What was striking was the coordination between the different fire brigades from Monheim, Kölburg, Flotzheim and Rögling, which were equipped with respiratory protection devices. The rescue workers were able to quickly evacuate the "missing" people from the danger zone and hand over to the preparatory emergency services. At the same time, the extinguishing work was also carried out at the nozzle site.

The exercise went hand in hand with the establishment of a water supply to support the extinguishing work and enable an smokehouse on the danger zone. To ensure that every evacuation route could be used, a fire protection staircase for the rescue measures was also used.
