Security watch in Karlsfeld: Only three men and far too little effort!

in Karlsfeld, the situation of the security guard is sobering. Police Commissioner Florian Lipok found in the main and finance committee of the local council that the expectations of this security initiative were not met. Although eight interested parties reacted in the first announcement, only three of them were actually suitable for the service. This security guard only consists of three older men who have been working since summer 2022 and have completed 170 hours of use during this time.

The sobering news will not be less, since the loss of their emergency services can be expected in the shortest possible time. One member is currently not operational, and the rest of the security guard has little time due to professional obligations. The last regular use is already planned in January 2024.

The challenges of the security guard

Despite the challenges, the still active security guards are trying to maintain their presence in the community. Lipok emphasizes that this initiative is crucial for the feeling of security of the residents and that the connection between the community and the police can strengthen. "We would like to have regular strips," he expresses the desire for more commitment on the part of those involved, who, however, work on a voluntary basis. The second mayor, Stefan Handl from the CSU, shows optimism that the concept has not yet failed: "The security guard is only on ice."

More presence would be desirable, agrees with Handl and describes the current security situation as not bad, but in need of improvement. The frustration becomes clear to the CSU council member Stefan Theil, the Lipok points out that an effective security concept is difficult to implement with three people. He calls for a revised procedure and suggests actively advertising at schools and other institutions to find new recruits for the watch.

Another important component on the future stability of the security guard is the youngsters. Main commissioner Lipok explains that young people often have difficulty getting involved in the long term. Nevertheless, he wants to use opportunities to win new interested parties at local events. "Even short missions could be helpful," he says. The goal is to expand the group to six to eight active members, who then show presence in central areas of the community.

positive experiences and new ideas

Janine Rößler-Huras of the Greens has an alternative vision to improve the feeling of security: It suggests that it again set up a police inspection in Karlsfeld, as it used to be. On the other hand, Ursula Weber from the CSU sees the small number of suitable applicants as a positive signal, since eight people finally showed interest. She asks about the experience of the security guards that Lipok describes as consistently positive - there were no significant incidents.

In order to increase the security and visibility of the security guard, the SPD councilor Beate Full appeals to the police to regularly report on their activities in the community sheet. Lipok assures that you follow this note in order to promote voluntary work. The police officer has also invalidated the concerns that some may not be willing to accept the job out of fear of awareness: "So far there have been no hostility."

The situation in Karlsfeld clearly shows that volunteer security services rely on versatile support and commitment. The efforts to motivate citizens to cooperate and to strengthen the feeling of security of the population are crucial for the future development of the security guard. Comments and stumbling blocks in the administration can ultimately lead to a sustainable change. Current information about this subject area can be found in an article on www.sueddeutsche.de .
