In Berchtesgadener Land there was an exciting training for volunteer reading sponsors who are passionate about children at primary schools. These committed helpers support teachers in German by offering individual reading promotion. At the organization of the volunteer agency, the reading sponsors received valuable insights into the German curriculum and practical tips to improve their support for the students.

Particularly alarming: According to a current PISA study, the reading skills of German students have subsided. This sobering result has given those responsible on alert. "Reading has become a top priority," explains Ulrike Schmid, reading officer and primary school teacher. The two primary school teachers gave the reading sponsors a comprehensive overview of valuable materials that promote reading. From initial tables to exercises with pictures and rhyme to reading paint leaves-the possibilities are varied!
