A dramatic incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, October 16, near Schneizlreuth, when a cable car got out of control due to a technical defect. As a result, 14 people were forced to spend up to six hours in a stuck cabin. Their rescue required an extensive use of mountain rescue and Bundeswehr, supported by three helicopters.
After alarm by the integrated Traunstein control center, an emergency call was immediately discontinued at 12 noon, since the cable car cabin could no longer continue. In addition to the mountain rescue service, the initially alarmed emergency services also included the air rescue, with the rescue helicopter "Christoph 14" and two other SAR helicopters mobilized. These were randomly stationed for flight training in the nutrient Kaufbeuren and arrived at around 2 p.m. in Oberjettenberg.

Such events are rare, but could occasionally occur, even with regularly maintained systems. The manager of the cable car immediately initiated the rescue measures after the defect became known.
The cable car of the WTD 52 itself is 2100 meters long and overcomes a height difference of 1036 meters, putting it into operation in 1965. It primarily serves to supply the military service area and the mountain training area. According to the previous studies on the cause of the incident, the WTD 52, regular operation, is not to be determined to resume again next Tuesday.
The rescue measures carried out were characterized by both the technology and the efficiency of the rescue teams. "Christoph 14" carried out a location exploration before the first abseiling and moved residents to determine which people descend on foot and which had to be saved with the helicopter. In an impressive teamwork, the 14 persisted people received support in the evacuation, initially roping 170 meters and then transported further.
In the hours of the rescue, some experienced Berger were won over to relegation, while the rest were recorded by the SAR helicopters in a complex commuting. The entire rescue operation went without further incidents and was maintained until the evening. This impressive example of the interaction between different rescue units shows the importance of well -experienced emergency plans and the willingness of the emergency services to act under difficult conditions.
