Topping-out ceremony in Bayreuth: New social building and energy center for sewage treatment plant!
A very special ceremony took place in Bayreuth on November 14th! The topping-out ceremony for a new social building and a modern energy center was celebrated on the site of the sewage treatment plant. Mayor Thomas Ebersberger and other important personalities such as Lothar Ziegler and Gisbert Röhle were on site to appreciate the progress of the impressive construction project. With an investment volume of over 37.5 million euros, the sewage treatment plant renovation will not only bring wastewater treatment up to state-of-the-art technology, but also make the energy supply climate-neutral.
The shell construction work, which began at the end of February, has now been completed and the expansion of the premises can begin. Offices, a laboratory and changing rooms and social rooms for employees will be built in the new social building. Particularly noteworthy is the doubling of changing and shower facilities, which will be increased from 30 to 60 spaces in order to meet the new requirements. In order to comply with the strict regulations on the separation of “black and white areas”, two separate staircases will also be constructed.
Technical innovations and new energy center
The energy center, which is located directly west of the social building, will be equipped with state-of-the-art workshops. Three combined heat and power plants, surplus sludge centrifuges and other technical facilities will be housed here. Electrical workshops will be built on the first floor, while storage rooms and pumps will be installed in the basement. In addition, two new low-pressure gas containers are planned, each with a storage volume of 4,000 cubic meters, which will further increase the energy efficiency of the sewage treatment plant.
The comprehensive renovation of the sewage treatment plant has become urgently necessary because the existing technical facilities are outdated and prone to failure. The wastewater treatment plant purifies the wastewater of around 100,000 people in the region and produces around 110,000 tonnes of sewage sludge annually. This project represents a significant step towards more environmentally friendly and efficient wastewater treatment.
