The anticipation for Christmas is increasing in Bayreuth! From November 25th, the city shines in a festive shine with the opening of the popular Christkindlesmarks. The impressive chain of lights, which has shaped the cityscape since 1958, will shine from 3:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. and ensure a magical atmosphere on New Year's Eve until 1 a.m. "At the turn of the year, people should also have decent lighting when celebrating," explains Dietbert Loher, who underlines the importance of the festive lights.

an expensive but worthwhile commitment

The costs for installation, maintenance and reduction of the light chain amount to around 100,000 euros annually. Despite these high expenses, the participants' commitment in the shop windows and shops are unbroken. They proudly show that they are part of this festive tradition. But not everyone benefits right away: Again and again the Bayreuth city center's protection community complains that some shops that benefit from the Christmas flair do not participate in the costs.

For city marketing, the festively decorated city center is a crucial instrument to attract shopping tourists and visitors. The festive lighting not only attracts people who want to enjoy the Christmas season, but also brings additional customer frequency to the shops. During school, the light chain is even switched on from 7.30 a.m. to 8 a.m. so that the students can experience Christmas splendor on their way to school.
