Refurbishment of the Loisach Isar Canal: Flood sequences are eliminated!

Again, the Loisach Isar Canal is the focus of renovation measures after flooding caused serious damage at the end of last year. The waterworks operator Uniper has now published a plan to fix the problems caused by leaks. This is a section of around 450 meters that extends between the Degerndorfer local path bridge and the bridge for Wolfratshauser Straße.

In November 2023, surveying and preparation work is initially on the plan that is necessary to prepare the renovation. The actual building, in which a special "geotextile sound poetry track" will be used, will start next year as soon as the weather conditions allow it. This sound sealing track is crucial to stop the water leaks that occurred in December 2023 during the re filling of the canal.

technical details of the renovation

The planned sealing track is made of bentonite granulate and embedded in a geotextile case. This construction is covered with an approximately 30 centimeter thick layer of gravel. According to Uniper, this structure ensures that the seal is optimally integrated into the profile of the channel and that possible bumps of the surface are effectively compensated for. A similar technology has already been successfully used in the renovation of another section of the channel.

The entire construction measure is closely coordinated with the responsible authorities. Following the water leaks in 2023, the water was immediately reduced, and the five areas in the Loisach damaged by the flood were initially temporary and then permanently renovated. Currently, the Loisach Isar Canal is only operated with a reduced amount of water to avoid further problems.

This necessary renovation of the Loisach Isar Canal is crucial to optimize the condition of the waterways in the region and prevent future damage caused by flooding. The progress in the work is followed with great interest because they are important for the stability and safety of the infrastructure in the area.
