Cranes on a new route: autumn spectacle over Wolfratshausen!
A spectacular spectacle in the sky! More cranes are currently moving over the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district than before. These majestic birds have discovered a new flight route along the Alpine edge, which they lead to southwestern Europe and North Africa in large groups. The impressive teams of thousands of cranes can currently be observed in many places in Bavaria, according to the State Association for Bird and Nature Conservation (LBV), and the animal experts expect that further birds will be visible in the sky by mid-November.
"First I heard her trumpet-like calls, then I saw a group of 100 to 200 birds in the typical V-formation in the distance," reports Sabine Tapperthofen, the managing director of the LBV in the region. These sightings are part of an extraordinary autumn spectacle that Dr. Miriam Hansbauer, an LBV spokeswoman emphasizes: "As many cranes than ever in recent times have been on the road." If you want to experience this fascinating natural spectacle, you should keep your eyes and ears open!

The cranes, known as grus grus, achieve impressive speeds of 50 to 70 km/h. Her new route leads from her rest area in the Hungarian National Park Hrtobágy via Austria and southern Bavaria before moving on to the Camargue in France. It remains unclear why this route is so popular, but the experienced birds seem to pass on knowledge about new train paths, while climate change and the expansion of the breeding areas could also play a role.
In Bavaria, the protection of protection of the past decades has borne fruits. Crane stocks have recovered, and around 50 breeding pairs live in Upper Bavaria. The development and care of wetlands are essential in order to offer the cranes a habitat in the long term. The bird expert Tappertzhofen is happy about the progress: "We are proud that our efforts work." Anyone who sees cranes will recognize them by their elongated neck - a clear sign of a fascinating natural spectacle in autumn!
