Flex for everyone? District day decides on expensive on-demand service!
A revolutionary concept for rural areas is on the brink! The on-demand service "Flex" should offer the residents of Egling and Dietramszell flexible mobility where the large regional buses do not go. But the financing of this project ensures heated debates in the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district council. By the end of 2026, four sprinters with space for six to eight people are to be used in the small communities. The costs? A huge million euros a year! In times of tense budget, this is a huge chunk.
The district council meets on Monday, November 4th, and will make the final decision about this expensive project. The runtime of needs traffic is based on four years, with a financial burden of 920,000 to over one million euros per year from 2027. According to the local transport plan adopted in 2021, the introduction of needs traffic is the highest priority to improve the connection of rural communities.
financing debate flared up!
In the last meeting of the district committee there were many critical voices. Some members doubt that the district can afford this costly “Flex” solution. From 2027, Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen will invest 12.7 million euros annually in public transport-and this will tend to increase! The SPD politician Klaus Barthel therefore called for talks with the municipalities about cost sharing. But this proposal found no support in the committee.
But Barthel doesn't give up! He plans to bring his application again to the next meeting of the district council. He wants to persuade District Administrator Josef Niedermaier (free voters) to lead negotiations on "appropriate cost sharing". Barthel emphasizes that the "Flex" project is a significant improvement in public transport offer and is in the interest of the general public. He does not see whether the two communities are really preferred as a problem. The tension increases - what will the district council decide?
