Alarming numbers: Alcohol poisoning in adolescents rise rapidly!
In the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, the number of alcohol-related clinic stays of children and adolescents has risen sharply. In 2023, 27 people between the ages of 10 and 19 had to be hospitalized with alcohol poisoning. This means an increase in those affected by 35 percent compared to 2022, as the
Klaus Reichert from DAK health pointed out that many young people overestimate their own limits and consider alcohol as part of celebration. It is also worrying that alcohol acts faster, stronger and longer in young people than in adults. In order to counter alcohol abuse among young people, DAK health continues its prevention campaign "Colorful instead of blue-art against coma running". As part of the campaign, a competition for pupils between the ages of 12 and 17 will be organized, in which creative posters are to be designed against drinking noise. Schools in the region are invited to participate, and the closing date for the competition is March 31, 2025. Since 2010, over 136,000 young artists have participated in this campaign. This initiative comes at a time when a total of 9,263 young people were recorded in 2023, which corresponds to a decline by 19 percent compared to 2022, as the DAK reported. The decline was found in all age groups from 10 to under 20 years. The strongest decline occurred in 15 to 19-year-old boys with minus 21 percent, while a decrease of 14 percent is recorded in this age group. The number of clinic treatments due to acute alcohol poisoning achieved the lowest level since 2001.
