Future of the Oberthulba forest: tree species in the struggle for survival!

The municipal council of Oberthulba recently met as part of a forest visit to visit the renovation measures in the local forest. Mayor Mario Götz welcomed those present, including the municipal councils and the management of the administration, and thus laid the foundation for future forest projects. The meeting took place at the hiking car park Lerchenberg, which also serves as a rescue meeting point.

The group made its way to the forest department "Old Schlag", where various climatic change scenarios were presented. These assessments show that the vegetation conditions, which are currently found in Paris and southern France, could also affect Oberthulba as a result of global global warming. It is tragic that the locals die from continuing drought and heat in recent years, which requires an urgently needed generation change.

Current measures for afforestation

The trees that are currently present should contribute to rejuvenating the forest. According to the reports, the pines have been largely removed, while the remaining oaks have plenty of fruits this year. This natural sowing is supplemented by the planting of tree hazels, noble chestnuts and cherries, which is supposed to increase the variety in the forest.

However, a participant expressed concerns about the strong bite by deer in this area. In order to counteract this problem, the number of deer may have to be reduced. Even if the cutting set in the municipal forest has been exceeded in recent years, other wooden harvests are necessary so that the young oaks receive sufficient light.

Another observation during the forest visit was the condition of the oaks. Old oaks were shown in a neighboring area, the crowns of which were badly damaged. The damage is due to different types of beetles that were weakened by the heat and drought period. In order to reduce the risk of further damage, affected trees must be removed while some trees are preserved to promote biodiversity.

reforestation and financing

In particular, an almost tree -free area in the Deißelbach department, which was formerly overgrown with spruces that fell victim to the bark beetle. The rich companion that has developed this year is a positive side effect of the good rainfall. This area is used for reforestation and is protected by a fence to protect the young plants. However, despite existing funding, the costs for these measures are not fully covered by them.

When reforestation, you plan to use about ten different tree species. The plantings should not only help the forest to become more resistant to climatic changes, but also promote biological diversity. Particular attention is paid to the care of these new seedlings, since they will play a decisive role in the restoration of the forest in the coming years.

Overall, this forest of forest shows how important it is to actively deal with the challenges of climate change and to take measures in good time. The decisions made in these sessions have not only impact on forestry, but also on the ecological conditions in the region.
