Partly all -clear: flood in Franconia slowly in retreat!

The flood situation in Franconia shows the first signs of relaxation. On January 12, 2025, the Borkener Zeitung Floods of the rivers and streams gradually runs. In Bad Kissingen, parts of the Franconian Saale have to be examined because there are still floods.

Also in the Ansbach district, especially around Altmühl, Sulzach and Wörnitz, similar problems can be observed. In the district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen, water occurs partly over the shores. In the meantime, the flood warnings have now been lifted in the city and district of Bamberg and in the Kulmbach district. The floods in Franconia have been caused by rainfall and melting snow. No major rainfall in the forecast is predicted for the coming week.

The Bavarian Radio reported that the weather was relaxed in large parts of Franconia after the recently recorded heavy rainfall. Nevertheless, individual properties or basements in the north of the region can still be flooded. The flooding shows a drain, but exits in areas such as the lower reaches of the Franconian Saale, Wörnitz and in the upper reaches of Altmühl are still an issue. The catchment areas of the upper Main, Steinach, Lower Steinach and Baunach are also affected by floods. In some places, the Franconian Saale continues to step over the bank, while the flood trial in the Bad Kissingen area, Lower Franconia.

Currently there is reporting level 2 for four Bavarian rivers: Franconian Saale near Bad Kissingen, Altmühl near Thann and Aha as well as Wörnitz near Harburg (as of 11 January, 9:30 a.m.). The weather forecasts for the coming weekend promise a further declining rainy activity, so that no more precipitation is expected.
