Professor Mamlock: A drama about hope and despair in National Socialism
In the Kurtheater Bad Kissingen, the audience experienced a gripping performance of the play "Professor Mamlock", which was already written by Friedrich Wolf in 1933. The Ensemble Hamburger Speechwerk brought the dramatic history of the Jewish doctor Professor Hans Mamlock to the stage, who lived in Berlin and tried to protect his family from the dangers of the emerging National Socialism. But his efforts fail: While his son dives into the communist underground, Mamlock believes to be safe as a respected hospital doctor.
The staging showed an eight -person ensemble that impressively represented the tensions in the hospital between the doctors and the Mamlock family. While some doctors like Dr. Hellpach and Dr. Inge Ruoff, who supported National Socialism, expressed others, such as Dr. Hirsch and Dr. Seidel, strong concerns. The Mamlock family, including the nurse Ellen and their children, kept out of the political discussions, which illustrated the inner tornness of the characters.
a masterpiece of emotions
Gustav Peter Wöhler shone as a professor Mamlock, who is torn between professional devotion and family concern. Director Aron H. Matthiasson managed to turn the dialogue into a captivating drama by putting the clarity of the texts in the foreground. Wolf, who carefully observed the German standards from exile, created a story that put many of her fictional elements into reality. The threat of the SA and the internal conflicts among the doctors became noticeable, while Mamlock, the idealist, ultimately fails due to reality.
The stage, designed with a glass wall and a wide sofa, offered space for the intensive dialogues and conflicts. A withered tree in the background, as a symbol of hope, reinforced the emotional effect of the piece. The long -lasting applause of the audience testified to the strong performance and deep response of the topics that are also relevant today.
