Nüdlinger Quintet triumphs: Adventure road trip to Palermo!
After a gripping road trip by Italy, five friends from Nüdlingen return home in the Bad Kissingen district. The main route of her adventurous journey was the trip to Palermo in Sicily, which ended on September 25th. The Nüdlinger Edgar Thomas, Marcus Lipsius, Achim Hein, Steffen Thomas and Matthias Zänglein have covered a distance of almost 3000 kilometers over a period of twelve days - a real driving adventure.
Initially, the group went into the Alps, where they were unexpectedly surprised by winter conditions. Marcus Lipsius reports that at a height of 1900 meters they met a closed blanket of snow and the temperatures were only three degrees. "We had everything we had with us," said the 46-year-old with a smile. From there the route led along the Lake Garda, over the Po-level to Parma, then further through the Tuscany before conquering the coastal regions of southern Italy.stations and highlights of the trip
The Nüdlinger made numerous stops to enjoy Italian culture and landscape. The Abruzzo, which Lipsius describes as "very green and exciting", were particularly worth mentioning. The famous amalfi coast, which she crossed with her Vespa team, also caused a few traffic jams, which is rather unusual for October, says Lipsius. "For me personally, the route along the sea through Catania was the most beautiful - very original Italy, without tourists," he explains.
The group had previously designed their route for a “big adventure”, which ultimately also had some challenges. The daily trips usually amounted to six to seven hours, with stages that ranged from 130 to a good 300 kilometers. Marcus says that they were always careful to get to the villages before noon to cost a piece of authentic Italian eating culture.
Sale of vehicles and plans for the future
Another interesting aspect of the trip was the planned sale of their scooters and motorcycles in Italy. This idea came from the desire to collect money for a good cause. "It was complicated because the Italians have the German bureaucracy that we always criticize," reports Lipsius. A small dealer ultimately showed interest in the vehicles, but bureaucracy often prevents the smooth process.
The time together on the street has consolidated with all friendships. "I didn't really find everyday life back," admits Marcus Lipsius. However, it will probably not have been the group's last road trip. Edgar Thomas already has ideas for further joint adventures, even if he does not want to reveal any specific details.
No matter whether you are traveling the next time on a Vespa, by motorcycle or car, the memories of Sicily remain alive. "I am already missing the Vespa," adds Lipsius, "but I'm sure there will be a new scooter for the next trips at some point." They will continue to accompany the love of Italian culture and the adventures that the street offers.
