Sternsinger in the Chancellery: Together for children's rights!
On January 7, 2025, 108 star singers gathered from all German dioceses in the Federal Chancellery in Berlin. The event was visited by four 16-year-olds from the parish "St. Martin" in Aresing (Neuburg-Schrobenhausen district), which represented the diocese of Augsburg. They were accompanied by Christine Dietrich. This year's motto of the "Aktion Dreikönigs-Singen" reads: "Raise your voice! Star singing for children's rights".
In his speech, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) emphasized the importance of child protection and children's rights. He praised the committed use of the star singers and thanked the donations collected. Pastor Dirk Bingener, President of the children's mission work "Die Sternsinger", thanked Scholz for the invitation. Bingener emphasized the universal rights of all children, which include nutrition, health, education, protection and care. The star singers from the diocese of Essen performed the blessing and received a personal donation from Scholz for an aid project in Ukraine. Luisa wrote the star blessing "20 * C + M + B + 25" in the Chancellery.
history and meaning of the action
The tradition that Sternsinger brings their blessing to the Federal Chancellery has existed since 1984. Every year, four queens and kings from 27 dioceses represent the nationwide campaign. Since 1959, around 1.36 billion euros have been collected for projects in favor of disadvantaged children. These projects include support in the areas of education, nutrition, health, child protection, emergency aid, pastoral tasks and social integration. The campaign is the support of the campaign "Die Sternsinger" and the Federation of German Catholic Youth (BDKJ).
The United Nations Child Rights Convention, which has been in force for 35 years, stipulates that children have fundamental rights worldwide based on the columns protection, support and participation. As reports sternsinger.de , it is a central goal of this year's campaign to strengthen and promote the rights of children worldwide. 250 million children, especially girls, do not go to school worldwide, and 160 million children have to work under exploitial conditions. In Turkana, Kenya, children have little access to schools or medical care, while weather extremes lead to lack of food. In Colombia, project partners are committed to protection, education and participation in order to counteract the frequent experiences of violence.
