SUV parking problem: Bavaria stays on the brake!
Aschaffenburg, Deutschland - In Aschaffenburg it is bubbling! The local group of the BUND Nature Conservation has dared to bold advance to increase parking fees for large vehicles such as SUVs. But the city administration, represented by the administrative officer Meinhard Gruber, sees Schwarz: "This is currently not legally possible!" A comparison with Paris is out of place here, because German laws, especially in Bavaria, are more strict and leave little scope for such ideas.
The chair of the federal group, Dagmar Förster, is combative. She does not just want to put the topic off and plans to continue to pursue it politically. Solutions are already being worked on in many cities, since the problem with the massive SUVs, which no longer only park in rural areas, but also in the city centers, is becoming increasingly urgent. These vehicles are not only wider and heavier, but also take up a lot more space - a real annoyance for the residents!
legal Situation and challenges
The idea of touching SUVs higher parking fees encounters many hurdles. The legal situation is complicated because not every SUV is the same. How should you differentiate between a compact mini SUV and a massive Land Rover? Who controls this? The city of Freiburg has already tried to introduce a staggered fee after vehicle length, but was stopped by the Federal Administrative Court. In Koblenz, a complicated formula is being worked on that takes into account the dimensions of the vehicles - another example of the challenges with which the cities are faced.
in Bavaria, the situation is even more proof. The Ministry of the Interior has decided to control the fee regulation itself, which means that the residents' parking certificates only cost around 30 euros per year, regardless of the vehicle size. However, Dagmar Förster remains persistent and plans to bring up the topic in the Agenda-21 advisory board. She hopes for a resolution to change the Bavarian legal situation and wants to actively involve politics: "We don't just want to be based on it!"
